Madre Cumbia gathers Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Fruko and Carmelo Torres on one North Beach bill.
The plan
Madre Cumbia gathers Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Fruko and Carmelo Torres on one North Beach bill. The collaboration with LPR places Colombian cumbia traditions at the center of the night, making the lineup itself the reason to go. Come for a focused live-music outing rather than a generic Latin dance party, and give yourself time to hear the contrasts between the announced artists.
Before you go
The published performance time is 8pm. Tickets are sold through the venue’s linked provider and can change in price or availability. Check the current entry instructions before traveling and avoid assuming a free resident deal unless the seller explicitly offers one.
Getting there & the venue
The Bandshell is an open-air venue under a canopy, so dress for the evening rather than for an air-conditioned theater. Its municipal lot is across Collins Avenue at 73rd Street and costs $2 an hour. Outside food and drinks are not allowed; there is a water refill station inside. Allow extra time for parking and ticket scanning, especially if you want to be settled before the opening performance.
Before you go
If you are new to cumbia, listen to each artist beforehand so the different sounds are easier to recognize live.
