Start Saturday with a beach cleanup and a look behind the scenes of the Bandshell.
The plan
Start Saturday with a beach cleanup and a look behind the scenes of the Bandshell. The meeting point is on the sand behind 73rd Street, between the 72nd and 74th Street lifeguard towers. Check-in, orientation and equipment collection begin at 9am; the program then combines litter collection with an 11am weigh-in, group photo and backstage visit. It is a practical way to pair outdoor time with a contribution to the neighborhood.
Before you go
Register and complete the liability waiver before attending. The listing welcomes all ages and includes a raffle, but participation does not guarantee a prize. Follow the cleanup team’s directions for safe handling and disposal.
Getting there & the venue
The Bandshell is an open-air venue under a canopy, so dress for the evening rather than for an air-conditioned theater. Its municipal lot is across Collins Avenue at 73rd Street and costs $2 an hour. Outside food and drinks are not allowed; there is a water refill station inside. Allow extra time for parking and ticket scanning, especially if you want to be settled before the opening performance.
Before you go
Go to the beach meeting point, not the concert entrance. Wear sun protection and choose clothing you are comfortable getting sandy.
